Brooklyn born Mirna Valerio celebrated her 40th birthday in an unusual fashion- by completed the grueling Javelina Jundred 100km ultra-marathon in the mountains of Arizona. While this might surprise many, challenging convention is Mirna’s speciality.
Through the pressures of life combined with a son who had joined the family and had severe asthma, Mirna’s weight peaked over 300 pounds. A visit to the doctor and a diagnosis of morbid obesity promted Mirna to sign up for a 5km run … and the rest, as they say, is history. Mirna’s obsession with running saved her life, and has inspired countless people around the world to do the same.
Mirna is the bestselling author of “A Beautiful Life in Progress” and was recently named National Geographic’s Adventurer of the Year.
